The power of word choice

I've written a lot about word choice. Today though, I'm turning the reins over to Hunter Thurman. His Fast Company article signs the light on an almost unconscious word choice we all make (I know I do!): the word "so".

Starting a sentence with that tiny little word sends all kinds of signals to the listener or reader, Thurman asserts. Using "so":

  • Insults your audience
  • Undermines your credibility
  • Demonstrates you're not 100-percent confident in or comfortable with what you're saying/writing
